How the gold calculator works
This calculator turns the live spot gold price into the value of a specific piece of gold. It starts from the current price of one gram of pure (24K) gold, scales it down to the purity you select, then multiplies by the weight you enter. The formula is simply:value = weight in grams × per-gram 24K price × (karat ÷ 24).
Everything is computed from a single live price snapshot, so the calculator, thepurity chart and theunit converter always agree with one another. Changing the currency re-prices the result instantly using live exchange rates, with no page reload.
A worked example
Suppose you have a 22K gold chain weighing 15 grams and the current 24K price is $85 per gram. The 22K purity factor is 22 ÷ 24 = 0.9167, so the per-gram value is about $77.92. Multiply by 15 grams and the gold content is worth roughly $1,168. Swapping the unit to troy ounces or the currency to euros recomputes the same underlying value in the new terms.
What the value does and doesn't include
- It values the gold content only, not gemstones, enamel, clasps or non-gold alloy metal.
- It reflects the intrinsic melt value at spot, before any dealer margin, premium or fees.
- It is an estimate for information, not a firm quote or an offer to buy or sell.
Tips for a more accurate estimate
- Weigh your item on an accurate scale in grams; even small errors scale up on heavy pieces.
- Confirm the karat stamp (e.g. 585, 750, 916, 999); fineness maps directly to karat.
- Weigh items of different karats separately rather than lumping them together.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate the value of my gold?
Multiply the weight of your item by the current per-gram price for its purity. For example, 10 grams of 18K gold is worth 10 × (24K per-gram price × 0.75). The calculator above does this for you. Just enter the weight, unit, karat and currency.
Does the calculator account for karat (purity)?
Yes. Pick the karat and the calculator scales the pure-gold price by that purity factor: 22K is 91.6% of the 24K price, 18K is 75%, 14K is 58.3%, and so on. Only the gold content is valued; stones, clasps and other metals are not.
Is the calculated value what a dealer will pay me?
No. The result is the intrinsic melt value of the gold content at the live spot price. A dealer or pawnbroker typically pays below spot to cover refining, margin and risk, while a retailer sells above spot to cover craftsmanship and premiums.
Which currencies and weight units are supported?
You can value gold in USD, EUR, GBP, INR, JPY, AED and CNY, and enter weight in grams, troy ounces, kilograms or tola. Every figure is derived from the same live spot snapshot, so the numbers stay consistent across units and currencies.
How accurate and up to date is the calculation?
The calculator uses the latest spot gold price from our data provider, refreshed throughout the day. It is intended for quick estimates and general information, not for executing trades.
